Hydration

In order to maintain healthy skin, we need to start from the inside, out. Drink lots and lots of water. This is no joke; our bodies cannot function at full

capacity with out it. If you do not stay hydrated, our bodies tend to let us know, you will start to notice your skin looking dry and brittle, which is not cute. Drinking more that enough water every day (over 8 glasses) also helps keep away skin blemishes, such as acne. Water helps flush away the toxins in our bodies which is often why we tend to break out, especially after eating greasy and sugary foods. That type of build up in the body takes a toll on us, so it is vital to stay hydrated.

Not only does our skin need hydration, so does our hair. The sulfates in shampoo and conditioner strip the oils of our hair, leaving hair thirsting for hydration. There are many ways to combat dry hair such as: leave in conditioners, hair masks, and hot oil treatments. My personal favorite method of hair hydration is the hot oil treatment. You can do this at home; all you need is any sort natural oil, such as olive or almond oil for example. You heat up a little amount of oil in the microwave to a favorable temperature, then dip your hands in the oil and gently massage the scalp until the entire head is drenched in oil. Leave the oil in overnight and shower the next morning, making sure to get most of the oil out so you are not rocking a greasy scalp. Your hair should look and feel healthy after this. This process is good to do at least once a month to maintain shiny hair.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation is a key step towards smooth skin. It rubs off all of the dead skin, dirt and oils from your skin and lets through a fresh layer of skin.

Exfoliation is great because it helps keep away skin blemish and acne by freeing your skin of dirt and oily buildup. Smooth skin is the most satisfying feeling and can be more easily obtained through exfoliation.

Not only should you exfoliate your skin, but also your lips. You can do this by rubbing you lips with a warm washcloth, wet toothbrush, or sugar scrub. This helps rub off dead skin from the lips, revealing soft smooth lips that were hidden underneath. Layer on a bit of lip balm and your lips will be left with lasting softness.

Moisturization

Just as we need to hydrate from within, we must also hydrate skin externally. Drinking water can only do so much, so it is best to use lotions or oils to put moisture back into the skin. I know in the winter skin becomes especially dry, so before you go out, make sure to moisturize your face and body, because dry skin in the cold HURTS. To lock in

moisture it is best to apply lotions right after showering. I personally love Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Crème for my face because it is so light, you won’t even notice you are wearing it. As for body lotion, I am obsessed with Vaseline Coco Butter lotion because it’s ultra hydrating and leaves skin feeling smooth for hours on end.

Maintenance
It is really important to keep up with good and healthy skin habits. Make sure that you are keeping up with the hydration, exfoliation, and Moisturization regimen. And don’t forget other habits such as

taking off all make-up before bed, because that prematurely destroys and damages skin more that it looks. Working out and sweating your toxins also helps purify the skin, so don’t forget to bring in at least a few extra steps a day. Healthy habits reveal healthy skin.
